Synod of Southern California and Hawaii to Launch Podcast Celebrating 170 Years of Presbyterian Ministry in Los Angeles
LOS ANGELES, CA – 8/25/15 – The Synod of Southern California and Hawaii, Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) is commissioning a six-episode podcast series to commemorate 170 years of Presbyterian ministry in Los Angeles. The series will explore the Presbytery’s rich legacy—beginning in 1854 with twelve founding members—and highlight its ongoing impact through stories of faith, justice, courage, creativity, and multicultural witness.
Produced by Resonate Purpose, a media and consulting company specializing in faith-based storytelling, the series will blend interviews, historical insights, and thematic reflections. Loren Richmond Jr., host of the Future Christian Podcast, will serve as Executive Producer. Jake Doberenz will serve as Managing Producer.
“Our goal is to preserve and share the incredible story of Presbyterian witness in Los Angeles—from its frontier roots to today’s diverse urban ministry,” said Richmond.
The podcast will spotlight influential leaders such as Henrietta Mears and Rev. Eugene Carson Blake, key congregations like First Presbyterian Church of Los Angeles, and movements that shaped both church and city life—from civil rights advocacy to dynamic Christian education.
Episodes will be released this fall on major podcast platforms and promoted through the Synod’s and Presbyteries’ networks. More information about the 170th anniversary celebration can be found at: https://lapresbyterians.net/
